Over the last week, we have posted two messages on our Facebook group asking for residents’ thoughts on plans to erect a cellphone tower on top of the building next to the Eastlake Shopping Centre. As well as posting your thoughts on Facebook, many of you also contacted us by email or in person.
While some people who sent feedback support the idea, most respondents oppose it. We hear you!
At this stage in our indicative, informal consultation process, we are only formally recording responses from fully paid-up MDGA members.
That said, we cannot ignore the fact that most of the responses we received – recorded and unrecorded – are overwhelmingly against the proposal.
| Yes | No | Total Responses | |
| Emails | 6 | 45 | 51 |
| 3 | 5 | 8 | |
| In person | 1 | 1 | |
| 9 | 51 | 60 |
If you’re not on Facebook…
We realise that not everybody who lives in the Marina is a member of our Facebook group. We did not publish this newsletter last week, but we are now inviting non-Facebook people to have your say on the plans by emailing your thoughts to the MDGA office on marinadagama@iafrica.com or visiting us in person.
For your information, here is more background:
The building in question is at 30 Eastlake Drive, next to Eastlake Shopping Centre. As part of its proposal, the cellphone company has provided these computer-generated images showing what the tower will look like once it is in place. They have also provided an image, showing the building’s location.
The building’s owners, Bobby Prop Construction, cannot accept the proposal without approval from the MDGA. As the Marina’s homeowners’ association, we would not like to make a decision without consulting all residents.

Next steps
The Marina da Gama Association’s Architectural Committee (MDGA Archcom) is scheduled to meet to discuss the results of this consultation exercise in detail before making a decision on whether to support the proposal or not. We will keep you fully informed about what happens next.
Meanwhile, there is still time to have your say.
