| Battle Ridge | Battle Ridge | ATT HB | 02.07.24 | 07h00 | Yes Muizenberg | At 07h01 a suspicious guy was seen exiting the Greenbelt area behind Battle Ridge towards The Row. The guy was caught in Yarmouth Rd and searched. Found a knife and a card machine on him. SAPS came and detained him for Possession of dangerous weapon and Possible Stolen Goods. It was later established that he stole the card machine from BP Garage the previous evening. At 09h40 we were informed about the incident at #39. As per the tenants it happened at 07h00. SAPS was informed, tenant opened a case, and the suspect was linked to this as well. |

The tenant did not want to open a case and also did not want to divulge any info. The only info we could get was, that it was a group of bikers that came to his place. he opened for them and then they assaulted him. This was due to an altercation between him and one of the bikers son. He did not want to provide any further details for fear of retaliation. |

Before officers arrived, she saw the suspect trying to jump into her back garden. She went out and shouted at him. The suspect then went back on the roof and went to the neighbor’s yard. When officers arrived and checked, they could not see the suspect in the neighbor’s yard. They then went to search the field. The client went back inside the house but did not close the door behind her. The suspect then came back and threatened her with a wheel spanner and grabbed her laptop and cell phone. When the officers returned, the suspect was gone. |

The total for July 2024 shows a significant increase over the previous 6 monthly reports.
2.LPR Triggers.
177 triggers were noted of which 61 were Uber and 52 were learner drivers.
3.SAPS liaison.
The law requires monthly liaison meetings between the Station Commander and the community. In the last 5 months there has only been one. This has been drawn frequently to the attention of the station commander without any useful response.
4.Cameras
All 28 cameras excluding those in cannon and park island are now functional. These are all owned by the MDGA. The monthly cost is R9805. There are no maintenance contracts for 20 of the cameras.
5.General
-I am able to drive again albeit slowly.
-the next Marina Guardians meeting will be held shortly.
-I am concerned about my failure to get anything material going in Uitsig. Will press on.
COMMUNICATIONS – LISE CARSWELL
Newsletter went out on the 1st. There is very little content for a mid-month newsletter so we will instead spend time updating the address and email details Mailchimp.
The website has been updated for the current Excom. Alan is still outstanding as I don’t have a bio yet.
EVENTS – VALERIE BENSON
Marina Open Gardens Day – scheduled for 13 October 2024 – posters and flyers have been designed. Will be printed closer to the time.
MUNICIPAL INFRASTRUCTURE – ULF MARTZ
The last month’s activities revolved around the ongoing liaison with the City of Cape Town officials relating to MDGA infrastructure maintenance.
PARKS AND GARDENS – VALERIE BENSON
Residents have donated plants for the public open spaces in Uitsig and in Eastlake Island. Thank you to Anne Fitzgerald of Eastlake Island for her donation of a September bush and Karin Lecuona for her donation of March lilies.
A resident in Carp Close, Uitsig Peninsula also donated plants for the Carp Close new community garden. Weeding at the Uitsig Park and the entrance to Uitsig was also done. Overgrown hedges were cut back at the Uitsig security guard hut. Areas in Marina Moorings were checked for overgrown bushes and trees and found to be in order.
In Eastlake, a new flowerbed was recreated and two donated coastal silver oak trees were transplanted. Tomorrow, normal tidy up will be done and a boat moved for a playground in Eastlake Island.
MEMBER WITHOUT PORTFOLIO – MIKE RYDER
- Litter nets………. Although not strictly the associations concern, the maintenance by ZT and myself and the council cleaning assiduously monitored by Lathif Gafoor is on going and satisfactory.
- Weed harvesters…. Sadly the same cannot be said of the harvesters which are both out of action with the kingfisher down for maintenance and the shoveller having suffered storm damage. More detailed feedback is awaited from council.
- Floating weed………reports have surfaced of floating rafts of the highly invasive fast growing parrotfeather in marina channels……Kyran has undertaken to try and remove them manually this week.
- Litter traps Coniston Park…… also not strictly Excom concern…but for info the traps have been badly scoured out and bollards have been washed away. It is effectively now useless as a litter trap. I recommend the Association write to council requesting a prompt repair.
- Scouring of coral worm……… the promised scouring of coral worm under the other marina bridges is awaited. This will help circulation and the health of the water. Excom representative at ZPAAC should pursue this diligently as it is probably a council low priority item.
- Water quality…………….
i) ecoli…….no figures currently available
ii) salinity … my figures from Battleridge 1-2 ppt and from wildwood indicate 2-3ppt which is essentially fresh water. If it remains this low when they close the mouth for summer…. a serious weed/algae problem can be anticipated.
